We Could Build Something Together

I love how when I’m inside you, I feel like a whole world of possibilities has opened up before me.  I love how you are ever-changing, yet always constant; I love the way you put together colors and forms, a style for every taste; I love that you come with instructions, diagrams of a smiling man and no words.  I love that I don’t have to be an expert to put you together piece, by piece.

I love that you bring back to me memories of my childhood, and shower me with visions of my future.  I love that thousands of people go to you, all for the same reason, regardless of language or nationality, to turn a house into a home, to change a life into an existence.

No matter where I am, you always make me feel closer to home.

I love you, Ikea.

Tin Man

Before you, I imagined I was broken.  I was the tin man—if I got stuck, oil could be applied to my joints, but my heart was untouched.  You were the house that fell on top of me, the field of poppies that made me pause, the woman that mixed my metaphors.  You were the wizard, the one that gave me a heart, that reminded me I could always go home to you.
